World Kindness Day

“Your lies are bullets, your mouth's a gun

No war and anger was ever won”

Kill ‘em With Kindness by Selena Gomez

Words are destructible. A word is like a sharp knife.

Giving to the poor or sending donations to an orphanage does not mean a person’s heart is tender. It is also about being gentle with your words and treating people with respect no matter how difficult they are. So, when you feel you don’t deserve the treatment, just kill them with kindness.

It is hard being kind especially when people are taking advantage of it. A person may ask his/her self, is it worth being kind to people when all they do is throw sticks and stones? Well, yes. It is worth being kind even though it is exhausting. People will test your patience, yet it all depends on how you’ll respond.

Kindness has the capacity to influence change. Imagine having a community where individuals are kind, what a dream come true! But no, one way or another, people will discourage you, bring you down, make you doubt, or worse, they will abuse you verbally, lowering your self-esteem and self-confidence.

“Think before you speak,” that is what they always say, but is this being followed? Not most of the time. For example, when people are angry, they tend to utter words that they do not mean, yet they could not control them since they are driven by their emotions. It is scary. You can say a lot of painful things that may affect a person’s mental and emotional health. The worst part is the words you said will forever remain. You can’t take all your words back.

However, no matter how hard facing these kinds of people who have awful attitudes, reciprocating kindness will always work because it conveys that they are not getting to you. They might even get to a point that it might fuel their rage, but that’s not the point. You’ll be better sleeping at night knowing you’ve done nothing wrong in retaliation.

Take Taylor Swift as an example. Every brick had been thrown at her since the start of her music career, not to mention, she was humiliated by Kanye West at the VMAs in 2009. But despite those trials and hardships she faced, she remained to be the artist she always was and continued expressing her feelings in her songs. She is not letting anyone affect her, but rather encouraging a culture of kindness that she embodies through her acts towards her fans and her advocacies.

Words are like scars. Even if they heal, they will always leave a mark.

It’s astonishing how the brain works like that. Words are truly unforgettable, especially when you take them to heart.

To sum up, there is nothing wrong with being kind. It is a contributing factor to gaining optimism and a positive heart and mind. You may never know whom you will influence when you show kindness to others.
